The U.S. Postal service has just joined Star Trek's50-year-and-counting mission.
The iconic space exploration TV series and multimedia franchise is celebrating 50 years since the airing of the second pilot , on Sept. 8. Now there's a collection of forever U.S. Postal Service Stamps to help you celebrate and mail some snail mail in Federation style.
SEE ALSO:Smithsonian sets 3 days of 'Star Trek' 50 year celebration awesomenessThe stamps feature four Star Trek-inspired graphic designs including an image of Starship Enterprise and silhouette of an unnamed crewman in a transporter who may or may not be a doomed "red shirt" and Spock's iconic Vulcan salute.
The postal service dedicated the stamp collection on Friday, along with the help of original series cast member Walter Koenig, who played the navigation officer Pavel Chekov.
"With the chaos in today’s world, hopefully the stamps and what they signify can inspire a better future for us all,” said Koenig in a statement. The postal service is celebrating the release of the stamps and the series on Twitter with the hashtag #StarTrekForever.
If you buy a sheet of 20 Star Trekcommemorative stamps, they appear in a special grid with the original Star Trek logo above and Captain Kirk's refrain, "Space...the final frontier" below.
So celebrate and send your mail boldly where it has never gone before: an actual mailbox.
