It's not the first time Dunham has apologised for a controversial statement after backlash, as many on Twitter have pointed out.
So, recognising a theme, two Australians have made a Twitter bot that can generate satiristic Dunham apologies.

A genuine apology is better than none, to be fair — not everyone apologises for outlandish media statements. But perhaps, with this level of backtracking, there's something to be learned?
Dunham hasn't had the best week. Lenny Letter, her literary newsletter with co-producer Jenni Konner, saw the public resignation of author Zinzi Clemmons, who cited her personal experience with the "well-known racism" within Dunham's circle.
