As 2017 beckons, we're making room for the new -- and very exciting -- trends that will define the coming year.

From distressed denim and slip dresses to fruit as a meat replacement, Pinterest is already predicting the biggest fashion, food and home trends of 2017 based on current search data.

Here's what's in store for us trend-wise for the coming year.

FASHION

1. The bell sleeve

Farewell off-the-shoulder, it's all about the romantic bell sleeve in 2017. Just try not to dip them in your coffee.

2. Pins, patches and stickers

Adorn your jackets, coats and tops with the most colourful array of pins, buttons and badges.

3. Slip dresses

Don't worry about getting dressed in the morning, you can just wear your pjs. Just kidding. But the slip dress and top combo is what it's all about.

4. Camel coats

Nude is the new black. Wear neutral tones like khaki and nude to nail this trend.

5. Distressed denim

The devil's in the detail when it comes to denim. Go for lighter hues, higher waists and distressed details.

FOOD

1. Fruit as a meat substitute

Don't bother topping your nachos with pork or chilli. Jackfruit has been dubbed the "pulled pork for vegetarians" and it's set to be the next big food craze.

2. Set-it-and-forget-it cooking

Sous vide is the lazy person's cooking hack. All you need to do is seal your ingredients in a plastic bag, cook them in a saucepan of water and then kick back and relax while it does all the work.

3. Vegetable crisps

According to Pinterest, healthy snack searches are up 200 percent this year, and "clean eating chips," like zucchini chips are one of the most popular picks.

4. Quinoa bowls

There is nothing more inviting that a bowl packed full of hearty ingredients. Pile on the superfoods and pepper with guac, cheese or whatever takes your fancy.

5. Octopus

Octopus is not as difficult to cook as it might seem. Try grilling it with a generous dose of lemon.

HOME

1. Climbing indoor plants

It's too cold to go outside, so why not bring the outdoors inside? Climbing plants are a great way to cheer up a bare shelf or lonely corner.

2. Into the blue

Scandi style might have favoured white walls and surfaces, but 2017 is about to get an injection of navy and deep blue. Dark feature walls against a lighter backdrop are set to make an entrance next year.
