What better time to become a citizen of the United States than on Election Day?
Before the 2016 presidential campaigns came to a close, America's newly naturalized citizens made their way to the polls to exercise their right to vote.

According to the photograph captions, Alvarado was officially appointed a citizen early on Tuesday, and in accordance with the California state law, voted hours later.

According to NBC News, Jorge Mario-Cabrera, spokesman for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, CHIRLA said Alvarado and his wife "were so extremely disturbed" by the anti-immigrant rhetoric present in this campaign that their daughter encouraged and assisted them in obtaining their citizenship prior to the election.
The moment was so iconic that Alvarado was even serenaded by mariachi band to celebrate.

And even if they didn't get obtain their citizenship today, many other recently naturalized citizens and their loved ones celebrated the fact that they voted in their first election by sharing stories.
