Buyers of Tesla's Model S and Model X cars will start getting new self-driving capabilities in their vehicles around mid-December, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced.
In a tweet Sunday, noticed by Electrek, Musk said the feature should arrive in "about three weeks." He also said the new features will be rolled out incrementally, in "monthly releases."

In October, the car maker announced all of its cars in future will be equipped with a heavily upgraded version of Autopilot, which practically allows for full autonomy in driving.
The current system will be upgraded to 8 cameras and 12 supersonic sensors, and it will have a huge increase in processing power.

It allows for automatic lane changing, keeping within a lane, matching speed to traffic conditions, automatic exiting the freeway when the destination is near, self-parking when near a parking spot and more, according to Tesla.
While all the new Tesla cars will come with the new hardware, it now appears that even they will have to wait months to get all the new features.
Eventually, sometime in 2017, the cars should actually achieve "Level 5" autonomy, which means the cars should be able to drive themselves on every road and in all weather conditions.
