Fallout 4unexpectedly brought support for mods -- player-created add-ons for the game -- to Xbox One
Fallout 4unexpectedly brought support for mods -- player-created add-ons for the game -- to Xbox One. The same support was supposed to be coming to PlayStation 4 as well, but Bethesda Softworks confirmed on Friday that it's not happening.
Mods have traditionally been the domain of PC gaming. There's been a small a handful of games in the past that gave players some ability to carry content created on a computer over to a console, but nothing on the level of what Fallout 4 has done on Xbox One.

Here's the full statement:
After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.
Like you, we are disappointed by Sony’s decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive. We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience. However, until Sony will allow us to offer proper mod support for PS4, that content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PlayStation 4 will not be available.
We will provide an update if and when this situation changes.
As the statement notes, console mods were also coming to the upcoming re-release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but that is no longer the case for PS4.
Since the issue appears to be on Sony's side, there's no way to really discuss what's going until the company responds. That hasn't happened yet, but Mashablereached out for comment and we'll update once we hear something.
