Pre-iOS 11, if users wanted to ensure Uber was not tracking their location, they would have to manually switch to "Never" after closing the app. Otherwise, the location services would remain running in the background, a feature deemed "creepy" by so many people that a Twitter moment was created.。

According to a screengrab by Joe Duvall, in iOS 11, the Uber app provides a disclaimer alerting users that if they select the "While Using the App" option, some features may not work while the app is running in the background, but hey, at least they get more privacy and hopefully save some battery life, too.。
