This... is my life. It's all of our lives. It is our collective reality of the last eight months.
Hardly a day goes bay that we are not spurred to Google about the day's events. One might search the same thing every time: "What fresh hell today?" More often, we search whatever the topic of the day is.
The good news is you're not alone in constantly Googling the newest Trump story. Everyone's doing it. And we're all doing it with a remarkable consistency.
This chart, from Stef Kight and Lazaro Gamio at Axios and based on Google Search data, highlights how the Donald Trump presidency has been marked by swiftly jumping from one insane moment to another, starting with the inauguration crowd size and taking us right up to the DACA announcement.
Credit: Axios/GoogleThere's been plenty written about how Trump's near-constant scandals have turned out to be an advantage—no one story sticks around long enough to actually cause serious harm. The chart above highlights google searches for various terms over the past nine months. It is the starkest example yet of how this has played out.
The line is impressively consistent. The 40 different instances cover a spectrum from the non-serious ("beautiful chocolate cake") to the serious (transgender military ban) to the downright terrifying (North Korea). Based on the distribution, hardly a week goes by without something spiking aggressively, with July through September becoming even more crowded.
Only a few more years of this, y'all.
