Following months of speculation, Lady Gaga has officially signed on to star opposite Bradley Cooper in a remake of A Star Is Born, for which she'll write and perform original music, it was announced Tuesday by Warner Bros.
Cooper will make his directorial debut with the film, which he's also producing with Todd Phillips, among others.
“For those of us lucky enough to watch him work as an actor and producer, it has been clear that Bradley would make this transition to director. We are honored that he is doing it, here, at his home -- Warner Bros. -- and with Lady Gaga as a collaborator and co-star," said WB executive Greg Silverman.
A Star Is Bornhas been remade multiple times, including a 1976 version starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. The latest version will serve as Lady Gaga's debut as a studio lead.
Lady Gaga earned an Oscar nomination earlier this year for her moving song “Til it Happens to You,” from the documentary The Hunting Ground. The six-time Grammy winner recently starred on FX's American Horror Story, for which she won a Golden Globe. She previously appeared in the Robert Rodriguez films Machete Killsand Sin City: A Dame to Die For.
Cooper has been preparing to transition behind the camera for several years, having produced American Sniperand this weekend's WB release War Dogs. He recently wrapped Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2and will soon be heard as the lead in A Dog's Purpose.
